Message from the Artist:
In July of 2006, I was nursing my son who was six months old and I received an immediate vibe to paint the moment. I sat there, no camera handy, and studied his face - making references of where lines met, angles and such.
As soon as he was asleep in his bed, I rushed to my studio and created the beginnings of the painting Memorizing Your Face (see below).
Unfortunately, in the rush to get this image down, the only substrate I could put my hands on was a gessoed piece of plexiglass. I learned later that this was not a suitable painting surface, as the painting was soon scratched.
The other day, I was looking through my portfolio with a collector and he landed on that painting. Seeing it with new eyes I realized I had to paint that moment again.
