Commissioned Mother and Child Painting | Cosleeping | Client Testimonial | Holding On & Michelle’s Kind Words

Holding On By Katie m. Berggren

"I am just blown away, I yet again lack the words to convey how much I LOVE your painting. I thought it was beautiful last night but tonight it's even more stunning, it's so rich & has such a warm glow, I love the deeper gold/orange tones. It feels warm, blissful, serene, snug, safe... these words aren't enough, I will have to go get a thesaurus & see if I can find the words to do it justice! I'm full of smiles ever since I received this and very very excited at the prospect that this amazing piece of art will soon be in my hands. I forsee lots of time spent each day staring at it and feeling warm and happy :). Thank you so much for creating this unique and precious gift for me, I know I will treasure it forever. You are a fantastically talented artist but it is a particularly special talent that you have to be able to capture the bond between mother and child(ren) so poetically." See the Painting Process of Holding On here choose archival prints of Holding On in the online Studio Shop I am honored to share Michelle's painting and this commissioned client's kind words. Thank you Michelle! Love & Sincerely, Katie

Resisting Life | Don Miguel Ruiz | Zumba | Life Inspiration | Free Cards Winner

Skin To Skin by Katie m. Berggren

I went to my very first zumba class this last week ~ and I knew I’d bumble. I did and I also had a really good time. As we began moving about, I instantly remembered a comment my hubby made to me before I left that morning ~ about my choice of attire for the class (I was wearing cackies and a tshirt with a zippered hoody and tee shirt). His comment comment didn’t strike me as funny til I saw myself dancing in the mirrors in the dance barn. I found myself cracked with smiles, glowing and beaming, ear to ear with even giggles. The old me, say, 3 months ago, would have held in that glee, stifled those smiles and stayed composed. I would have contained the real me that clamored to get out and enjoy my funny hubby.     I looked around and figured the other women probably thought I was totally digging the dancing, which I really was. Don Miguel Ruiz says in his book The Four Agreements: “That is why humans resist life. To be alive is the biggest fear humans have. Death is not the biggest fear we have; our biggest fear is taking the risk to be alive – the risk to be alive and express what we really are. Just being ourselves is the biggest fear of humans. We have learned to live our lives trying to satisfy other people’s demands. We have learned to live by other people’s points of view because of the fear of not being accepted and of not ...

Step By Step Painting | Mother and Child Babywearing Painting | Deep As A River | Painting Process

Painting process Deep As A River by Katie m. Berggren

Deep As A River, created in 2011, remains one of my favorite babywearing paintings. This painting was inspired by the encompassing beautiful nature I experienced with my family at Silver Falls (Silverton, OR) a bit ago... and the peace that followed the whole weekend after our hike. From an unusual fern, to the blue of the sky between rain clouds - to an image I found in a magazine, featuring cows... I have been edged with inspiration ever since. I'm honored to share the painting process of Deep As A River with you here:                                                                                                                               Deep As A River and Elemental emerged at the same time ~                                                                                         Snag archival prints of Deep As A River in three sizes in the Online Studio Shop! Free Cards Friday | A Simple Regret of My Own | Mother Regret | Biking

baby on bike, photo found online

As a proud mama of two little boys ~ I have gratefully had the opportunity in my life to be able to breastfeed, babywear, co-sleep, bubble bath with my boys and many, many, many other activities that come along as joys when raising a child. I do have a regret though. Off the top of my head it might be the only regret I have: When I was a little girl, my mom used to occasionally strap me into a simple seat on the back of her bike, and off we’d go. I do not have more than one or two memories of being behind her as she road, and the wibbly-wobbly feeling while she was off the bike and I was on ~ as she either prepared to remove me from my seat, or had just buckled me in. Funny how we can remember bits of motion. I must have been around 2 years old. Well, when our boys were very young, we lived in a town with lots and lots of hills, and very little opportunity to jump on the bike and ‘off we go!’ Thus, my boys will NOT have a memory of being strapped at my back as we encountered biking adventures. I honestly feel sad about this. When I was a little girl, I used to imagine what it would be like to strap my kids in the backseat of the car and go for a drive. I remember the thrill I got the first time I was allowed to take two little boys ...

Inspiration from Jurgen Wolff: creating a Done List

Blessings by Katie m. Berggren

I am honored to receive a monthly update from Jurgen Wolff ~ it is one of few emails that I actually read and re-read, vs. toss. Here is what I felt most inspired by from Jurgen’s most recent note:   If your days seem to disappear, start a "done" list to find out where they go I use a to-do list but often things come up that need to be handled but aren't on the list. At the end of busy days I sometimes wonder where the time went. Not very many of the items on my to-do list have been crossed off. One helpful tool in this situation is the "done" list. It's exactly what the name suggests: a list of the things you do, jotted down as you complete them. If you look at your to-do and done lists after a few days, you'll probably come to one of these conclusions: • You're letting yourself be distracted by too many not very important things (these won't be on your to-do list but will be on your done list). • You're forgetting to put important things on your to-do list (again, these will show up on your done list).       ACTION: If your time seems to vanish, try keeping a done list for a few days and then see which of the two conclusion above applies to your situation. Brainstorm a strategy for deflecting the unimportant tasks, or better planning the important ones. above text: ©Jurgen Wolff, http://jurgenwolff.com/ It’s Free Cards Friday! healthier body, happier mama

Provide by Katie m. Berggren

As a salad-loving wife and mama of two busy boys, I find myself alone at the dinner table more often than I like to admit. My hubby and sons enjoy but blast through their meals and our dinner conversation to head off in search of whatever activity I had to pry them from when I served the before-mentioned meal. They are making the most of their evening time together, and I get that, whilst I remain: mindfully enjoying and thoroughly chewing my greens. Last June (2011), I made some big diet changes (hence me, the now salad-lover) and one of those big changes involved taking the time to chew versus gulp my meals. As mamas we are busy and burdened and full of ideas of how we’d like to be or should-be spending our time. However, additional moments spent chewing assist in proper digestion in so many ways, leading to a healthier body, thus, a happier mama. According to The World’s Healthiest Foods website  when we take the time to chew our food long enough for it to be unrecognizable by texture before swallowing, we are on track to reduce esophageal stress, bacterial overgrowth, intestinal gas and other symptoms of indigestion. And if an efficiently-working system isn’t benefit enough ~ obviously when we take the time to enjoy our meals and think about the effort we (or someone else) put into preparing the meal as well as the different colors, flavors and textures of our foods, we are flung into the present moment ~ which really is a ...
